ACM ICPC 2007-2008 edition

For the second time this year, UoM has participated in the ACM ICPC programming contest.

28 October 2007 - UoM team solving the first problem at IIT-Kanpur
The contest started at 10.00 am. A set of seven problems were provided to the contestants to solve in five hours. Yashvin, Zyaad and Madhav worked hard to solve the problems set at the ACM ICPC Kanpur site. They managed to finish two of the problems and came out 37 with honorable mention.




24 October 2007 - Press conference - DCL presents air tickets to UoM team
During a press conference held in the council and senate room of the University, Data Communications Ltd presented air tickets to the UoM team for participating in the ACM ICPC programming contest. The minister of education, honorable Dharam Gokhool was present for the occasion as well as dignitaries from UoM and DCL.

27 September 2007 - We are ON

The results were out and HURRAY- our team was there (team 57 on list - no we did not come out 57th. The list just happens to be in alphabetical order.


22 September 2007 - Our team competes for the online contest

Madhav, Zyaad and Yashvin diligently worked on the problems for the ACM ICPC contest for the Kanpur site.


11 September 2007 - Local contest: second round

Given there was a tie for 3rd place, a second round was organized to identify our third candidate for the team on Tuesday the 11th September 2007 @13.00 for the above five contestants in the MCID lab. Madhav and Zyaad were encouraged to participate for practice purposes.

5th September 2007 - The Local Contest

To select our champions, the Computer Science Department organized the local programming contest on Wednesday the 5th of September @ 9:00 a.m in the MCID lab. This year, we were pleased to have attracted students from different faculties. PC2 was used to evaluate the answers of the students.

Seven candidates were shortlisted as being the best programmers of the University. They were:

3 Yashvin Veerappa 3 Ramen Kervin
3 Ashish Boobun 3 Adarsh Hasnah
3 Luxmikant Nugessur

The programming subcommittee petitioned for Zyaad to be part of the team since he was an MSc student.


21 August till 5 September 2007 - Prep work

Registration was open for students to participate in local programming contest held on 5th September 2007. The following students registered.

Candidates were encouraged to practice sample problems available at: http://online-judge.uva.es/problemset/.

Pascal investigated the use and deployment of PC2 in the MCID lab. After having some problems with RMI settings, he finally got the system to work.
